Learn Institutional Information and contexts section for Wednesday 14th March.
et - The extra-terrestrial
Now that we have watched all of ET we are ready to start studying it in detail. This means we will be looking at the film in a number of different ways. We will analyse sequences using the micro-elements of film form, we will research the contexts (historical, social, cultural, political and production) which may have a bearing on the film and how it can be understood. We will think about the aesthetics of the film, the meaning and response, the representations of people, places and things and of course the narrative.
Below you will find a range of links and resources to help with your learning.

week 10
This week we have been working from the GCSE coursebook. Our focus has been on SOUND starting with the gradual move from silent movies to sound films which took place in the late 1920s and early 1930s. I showed you a couple of clips including one from Singing in the Rain which I have added below. And also one from The Jazz Singer the first notable sound film. You have all written about this in your books.
We have also started to look at how sound is used, both diegetic and non-diegetic and the first clip we looked at for this was from the 1953 Hitchcock film Rear Window. This is also view-able again below. Prior to this we also looked at the beginning to a French film - Delicatessen - I have added this below as well. This film uses cinematography and sound very strongly. HW1 (due Wednesday 29th Nov) Re-watch the opening sequence of Delicatessen and add to the notes you began in class on SOUND in particular. Denotation: what you hear. Connotation: what meaning is created. Use film micro-elements to describe. Extension: Add to these notes for CINEMATOGRAPHY, MISE-EN-SCENE and EDITING. HW2 (due Wednesday 6th Dec) Your HW for this week is to write a description of an opening scene from a new film (which you are going to make up). The rules are simple.
