nea - NON EXAMINED ASSESSMENT
I'm sorry that I couldn't be with you this week I have been unwell. I hope that my instructions were clear enough and that you used your time successfully to work on your screenplay's, shooting scripts/storyboards. This next step is an important part of the process.
In this week's lessons I will need to catch up with were you are and draw a line under the first stage of the NEA work. You will all need to have submitted a screenplay extract which is to length and in the expected formatting. However the NEA is not complete without two other elements which we must complete as well and I will explain these in our lessons. Some of you will I hope want to go the next step and MAKE their film extract and this process will also need some explaining.

week 8 and 9 - 13th november
|
Sorry, I cannot be with you today.
Please edit using Da Vinci Resolve: all your media is in the KS4 Film and Media folder in a new folder called MOV files. You should not get the same issues as previously. When editing aim to put the clips in EXACTLY the order they appear in the real clip. To do this WATCH THE CLIPS and use the SOUND clips in the Submarine folder. See how CLOSE you can make your production to the original. Once complete, evaluate the process in your book by answering the following questions:
HW complete this evaluation. |
week 5
A reminder to continue to work on your sequence analysis presentation. The expectation is that you will complete as least one or two slides for HW and then the rest in class on Tuesday.
I cannot stress to you how important this will be for your revision in 18 months time. The more depth and analysis you apply now the better will be your outcome in the exam. |

week four
We have screened the film and begun to discuss it. In detail, the next step is of course to write about it using the terminology which you have learned and your new found and developing understanding of film language and film grammar.
Here are the questions I shared with you in class. The RED one is for everyone, the purple one is an extension. There is also an extension on your HW - the synopsis of the narrative of Submarine. See slide below.

week 3
This week we will be finishing watching Submarine and beginning to write about it in more depth.
This will involve some reading, some discussing and some applying of film micro-elements. We will pick out some key sequences and discuss/explore them in detail. We will use individual frames to analyse and you will learn some new terms relating to sound and editing.
Below is the trailer for Moonrise Kingdom and an interview with Wes Anderson - an interesting comparison.

Ideally watch with your family and discuss the film afterwards. Think about the following structural features of the film.
Enjoy. |

year 9 media / film studies
|
|
welcome
Below you will find an overview of your course for the next year. The current thinking is that we will focus on all media forms in year 9 and develop your skills and knowledge. And in year 10 and 11 we will focus on either Media Studies GCSE or Film Studies GCSE whichever course seems most appropriate and offers the greatest opportunities for academic success as well as creative and stimulating learning.
As you will discover, studying the media means a lot of different things and requires an engaged inquisitive mind and an open attitude towards the world. If you don't have that yet, you will develop it. The first few weeks will seem quite strange and we will touch on a lot of language and technical concepts that may be unfamiliar but it will soon become second nature. You will also start by considering in what ways media affects your own life. |
lesson 1You can expand the document below and go through the lesson. The HWs are on the last two slides.
